Stellenbeschreibung:

Post Doc - Electrophysiology & Sensor imaging of brain-obesity circuits

Join Us in Shaping the Future of Obesity Research

We are seeking a passionate and talented postdoctoral researcher who shares our ambition to uncover innovative therapeutic strategies for the treatment of obesity. We aim for in‑depth investigation of critical neuronal and molecular mechanisms that could enhance and prolong the efficacy of anorexigenic therapeutics. Using cutting‑edge technologies such as patch clamp and functional biosensor imaging in acute brain slices, you will explore how neuronal networks respond to pharmacological modulation.

This position is part‑time eligible with a minimum of 90%. The posting is limited to a 2‑year term. Applicants must have recently completed their PhD. We welcome qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Investigate cellular and molecular changes in circumventricular brain areas during the development of obesity and in response to anti‑obesity treatments.
  • Explore single‑cell sequencing datasets for markers that predict sustained suppression of food intake through neuronal and network responses.
  • Establish and perform methods for AAV‑mediated transduction of hypothalamic nuclei in mice, including labeling specific neuron populations and monitoring plastic network changes upon pharmacological treatments.
  • Set up and execute experiments to study neuronal properties in hunger/satiety circuits using electrophysiology techniques, such as cell‑attached or whole‑cell patch clamp and functional imaging in acute brain slices.
  • Present findings at internal and external meetings and publish them in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate in a stimulating environment with experts in the field and be part of interdisciplinary teams involving cellular and molecular biologists, chemistry experts, electrophysiologists, and pharmacologists.

Requirements

  • PhD in biology, neuroscience, or related fields.
  • In‑depth knowledge in neuroscience.
  • Extensive hands‑on experience in whole‑cell patch clamp and electrophysiology recordings in acute brain slices; background in recording hypothalamic and/or brainstem neurons is advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of neurophysiology and experience in viral approaches to transduce rodent brain; stereotaxic surgery know‑how would be a plus.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications in scientific journals.
  • Ability to work in a drug‑discovery oriented environment with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken); German language skills are desirable.

Application Process

Step 1: Online application – the posting is available until November 14th, 2025.
Step 2: Virtual meeting from mid to end of November.
Step 3: On‑site interviews beginning of December. Include a cover letter and CV in your application.
