The University of Cologne invites applications for a Professorship in Economics (W2) (f/m/d). The WiSo-Faculty (Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences) is consistently top ranked in research and teaching. The professorship is part of the Cluster of Excellence “ECONtribute: Markets & Public Policy,” jointly run by the Universities of Cologne and Bonn and funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
The professorship in Economics (W2, tenured) is part of the Cluster of Excellence “ECONtribute: Markets & Public Policy.” The cluster provides a dynamic, collaborative and international research environment for understanding market functioning and failures, as well as public policy responses, using innovative research approaches. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the overall research agendas of the Cluster and the WiSo-Faculty and engage in the management of the Cluster and the academic administration of the WiSo-Faculty. The professorship will be based in the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to excellence in teaching in the WiSo-Faculty’s programmes.
We invite applications from outstanding scholars from all fields in economics, such as applied, quantitative, public, or international economics. We expect a track record of outstanding publications in economics and a strong commitment to research excellence. The research profile should fit the ECONtribute Cluster of Excellence. Candidates have ideally demonstrated the ability to offer high-quality teaching in Economics at different levels.

The position is available from July 2026 or based on mutual agreement. Formal requirements are detailed in Section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz – HG NRW). Teaching load is nine semester hours per week (i.e., two hours per week is one 90-minute course per semester).
