Senior Applied Scientist

You will be part of the Consumer Insight & Segmentation team. As part of the Lounge by Zalando marketing department, our mission is to improve the understanding of our customers and apply insights gained to further improve our customer experience. Join a team of Data Analysts and Scientists working on topics such as CRM Personalisation, Experimentation and Quasi-Experimental Research, that directly impact our Marketing teams’ daily work and help elevate our customer communication to the next level.

What you will do

1. Mentor mid-level Applied Scientists and Senior Data Analysts who can learn from your experience.
2. Together with the team, advance our Machine Learning setup and enable customer lifecycle communication at every step of their journey using advanced machine learning techniques to determine the optimal content, timing, delivery method, and target audience for each interaction.
3. Be an integral part of the team, working alongside researchers and apply their findings in real-world scenarios.
4. Proactively identify areas of improvement, drive implementations, and bring solutions forward.
5. Develop long-term solutions for whole research-related business problems, such as Uplift Modelling.

What we are looking for

1. Masters Degree in Applied Science, Computer Science or a similar field.
2. At least 5 years of work experience in the field of Machine Learning, preferably in the field of CRM and/or Personalisation.
3. Strong ability in solving real-world problems using machine learning throughout the product cycle, spanning from improving department level best practices, advancing technology, to building architecture and evolving algorithms.
4. Skilled at transferring scientific methods into comprehensive reproducible code.
5. Experience with developing and applying Uplift Modelling and Next Best Actions in the context of customer communication.
6. Profound knowledge of Python in daily practice and experience handling vast amounts of data using distributed systems such as Spark.
7. You see yourself as part of a team, fostering collaboration and providing support to the team.
8. Fluent in English; basic knowledge of German is a plus.
