Job Description

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join us in Berlin or remotely to cover maternity leave . Reporting directly to the CTO, you will support six engineers distributed across two teams: Journey & Lifecycle Marketing.

The Journey team works on products that delight users across their journey with Ecosia’s products, from onboarding to increasing their individual and collective climate impact. The Journey team also enables other teams to deliver their own features behind a user account (e.g. synchronize settings, store chat history, etc).

The Lifecycle and Marketing team works on understanding the user’s journey (acquisition, activation, etc). It connects users with content and products across different marketing channels (in‑product communication, emails, landing pages, etc).

As their Engineering Manager, you will enable your engineers to grow professionally, deliver great impact, and be empowered to manage their own tasks effectively. You will support your team to make good technical tradeoffs, assist in staying operationally excellent, and deliver impactful technical solutions.

In collaboration with your Product and Engineering management peers, you will enrich our equitable, inclusive, curious, and fun Engineering culture. Join us to contribute greatly to our planet!

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the team to overcome technical challenges, ensuring operational excellence, and leveraging your skills to find innovative solutions.
  • Ensure the seamless execution and timely delivery of projects and experiments.
  • Collaborate with internal Product & Engineering stakeholders across teams to implement cross‑team initiatives.
  • Enable your team to be professionally capable by removing roadblocks, facilitating decisions, resolving conflicts, improving processes, and providing assistance.
  • Hold regular 1:1s, feedback, and growth conversations to plan and support career development, including coaching and mentoring.
  • Review team’s performance, ensuring compensation and evaluation are fair and equitable.
  • Inspire an atmosphere of continuous improvement and ensure that engineers continue to learn and share knowledge and insights across teams.
  • Co‑create a collaborative and inclusive culture in line with our company values.

Role Requirements

  • You enjoy developing and growing people and have a documented history of leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring engineers with different profiles and backgrounds.
  • You possess at least 5 years of experience designing and shipping software to production, showcasing the ability to effectively guide the team in initiatives through the whole life cycle (from business problem space to monitoring in the technical solution in production).
  • You are comfortable navigating a web technical stack, including cloud and infrastructure-as-code.
  • You acknowledge diversity and understand the importance of creating an inclusive workplace (crucial!).
  • You have a bias towards action and pragmatism, both in your own work and in your enablement of others.
