OrelTech/ATMOcoat is a Berlin-based tech company providing cutting-edge metallization technology across many sectors, including green energy (electrolyzers, fuel cells, PV, batteries), medical tech, semiconductors, automotive, and printed electronics. The core of the company’s success is a low-temperature metallization process to deposit precious metals such as silver, gold, platinum, and palladium on almost any material. The technology saves energy and metal and runs without any toxic chemicals or waste.
OrelTech / ATMOcoat is growing dynamically: the team of currently seven people is set to grow to over a dozen by the end of 2027. Anyone joining OrelTech/ATMOcoat will find a committed and agile team with solid processes and professional standards in place. The company has recently launched its ATMOcoat brand for coatings in renewable energy components and is driving the further development and scaling of its ground-breaking one-step metallization device.
The Position
We are looking for an experienced Lead Mechatronics/Mechanical Engineer to strengthen our device development team and take a key role in bringing a novel hardware system from the R&D stage to commercialization.
This is a hands-on role for a senior engineer with strong mechanical design experience, system-level thinking, and a proven track record of developing real products. You should be comfortable working across mechanics, electronics, motion, sensors, and fluid-related subsystems, and be able to turn an early, evolving concept into a robust and manufacturable system.
Depending on your experience and profile, this role can grow into a broader technical leadership position.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, engineering, and iterative improvement of our hardware systems from concept through prototype to product level
- Own key aspects of mechanical system design and contribute to overall system architecture
- Develop and optimize machine subsystems for robustness, reliability, manufacturability, and scale-up
- Integrate mechanical, electromechanical, sensing, and fluid-related components into a reliable overall solution
- Define technical requirements, plan and execute prototyping and testing activities, and drive engineering decisions based on results
- Design parts and assemblies using CAD and support rapid prototyping and hands-on development
- Assemble, test, and improve prototypes and product builds
- Work closely with internal and external partners across engineering, software, and product development
- Help shape the roadmap from experimental setup to scalable product
- Contribute to building engineering structure, standards, and technical direction as the team grows
Must Haves
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field
- 8+ years of relevant industry experience in machine development, product development, or complex hardware systems
- Proven experience taking hardware from concept to prototype and toward production or commercial deployment
- Strong mechanical design skills and experience with system integration
- Good understanding of mechatronic and electromechanical systems, including sensors, actuators, and motion-related components
- Strong system-level thinking and ability to solve interdisciplinary engineering problems
- Expert-level CAD and prototype development skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a growing multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication skills in English, written and spoken
Nice to Haves
- Experience with aerosol, liquid dispensing, coating, printing, or similar delivery systems
- Experience with additive manufacturing equipment or other complex machinery
- Experience improving hardware for manufacturability, scale-up, and reliability
- Familiarity with materials, surfaces, and manufacturing processes relevant to machine development
- Experience working with software or programming partners on machine control, backend, or user interface implementation
- Project leadership or team leadership experience
