Student (f/m/x) - Preliminary analysis of a miniaturized SAR satellite swarm

DLR's Responsive Space Cluster Competence Centre (RSC³) in Trauen is a unique research facility in Germany that addresses in a holistic way the topic of Responsive Space. This field explores how to respond faster, more flexibly and securely in space with the goal of increasing the overall resilience of critical infrastructures in space. Innovative concepts and technologies are analyzed, developed and demonstrated at the RSC³.

This position is planned as a student job or internship and can ideally be combined with a master's thesis.

Your tasks

  • outline different swarm concepts for the mission
  • find and process subsystem specifications
  • dimension the specifications of the Attitude and Orbit Control System for different mission profiles and conduct the corresponding sensitivity analysis
  • compute and maintain system budgets (delta-v, pointing, etc.)
  • trade-off analysis of driving performance requirements and specifications
  • program, run and troubleshoot necessary simulations (GMAT, Python)
  • report and present findings

Your profile

  • knowledge in mission analysis and systems engineering
  • knowledge in spacecraft subsystems including orbit analysis, propulsion, and guidance, navigation and control
  • strong knowledge in a mission analysis tool such as GMAT (preferred) or STK
  • strong programming skills in languages such as Python (preferred) or C++
  • knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
