Substation Physical Engineer
Leidos is seeking a Substation Physical Engineer to design and execute electrical substation projects for utility clients with voltage ratings ranging from 12kV to 500kV. The role involves working with digital logic design, AC & DC circuits, and substation physical drawings to deliver quality solutions that meet client needs and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute substation physical projects, collaborating with engineering, design, and CAD teams.
- Perform quality control of substation physical design projects.
- Read and design substation physical drawings such as one-line, three-line, plan-section, foundation, and grounding drawings.
- Create and verify bill of materials for substation physical components.
- Attend site visits at customer locations.
- Maintain compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget while following quality control and safety practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- Experience in executing substation physical projects.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal team and clients.
- Ability to read and design substation physical drawings and produce bills of materials.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- High level of computer competency.
- Willingness to travel to project or client sites and to the Portland, OR office as required.
- U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S. and able to pass a DOE background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Substation physical design experience: +2 years (Mid‑Level), +4 years (Senior‑Level), +8 years (Lead‑Level).
- Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies.
- Experience with bus calculation and protection/control design.
- Proficiency with WinIGS or CDEGS.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or engineering certifications such as EI/EIT.
- Master’s degree in a related field.

Pay Range
$87,100.00 - $157,450.00
