At the Institute of Geosciences of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, a W3 Professorship in Hydrogeology and Aquatic Geochemistry is to be filled as soon as possible.

The future holder of this position should represent the field of Hydrogeology and Aquatic Geochemistry in research and teaching across its entire spectrum. We are seeking a scientist recognized in the field of hydrogeology and aquatic geochemistry who can further develop this research area internationally. The main research focuses include characterizing the subsurface hydrogeologically and geochemically, understanding and quantifying relevant processes occurring underground, with particular attention to groundwater quality and quantity in urban, rural, and coastal areas, especially considering climate change and increased anthropogenic use of geological undergrounds. Innovative concepts and methods from laboratory to field scale should be employed.

This professorship is part of the applied research groups at the Institute of Geosciences, with close collaboration in research and teaching desired. This includes co-leadership and utilization of the Geotechnikum research platform, which features a state-of-the-art, innovative large-scale testing hall under construction, and the TestUM field test site for field investigations, including personnel. The professorship will also have access to analytical laboratories and additional labs for teaching and research in the new Institute of Geosciences building.

The candidate should pursue interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research approaches or be willing to do so. Linking with one or more of the four research priorities of CAU Kiel is highly desirable ( ).

In teaching, the successful candidate will deliver courses in the Bachelor's and Master's programs in Geosciences. Teaching experience is expected, as well as the ability to teach in German and English within three years. The focus should be on fundamental hydrogeological and geochemical concepts, as well as laboratory and field methods for characterizing the subsurface hydrogeologically and geochemically. Participation in teaching general geoscientific content is also desired.

Requirements include a university degree and a doctorate in Geosciences or a related field, preferably with a focus on Hydrogeology or Aquatic Geochemistry. Experience in successful, including coordinating, third-party funding acquisition, university teaching, and internationally visible research activity are expected. Experience in planning and conducting practical laboratory and fieldwork, applying new hydrogeological and geochemical characterization methods, and collaborating with SMEs or authorities are advantageous.
