At Bayer we’re visionaries, driven to solve the world’s toughest challenges and striving for a world where ,Health for all, Hunger for none’ is no longer a dream, but a real possibility. We’re doing it with energy, curiosity and sheer dedication, always learning from unique perspectives of those around us, expanding our thinking, growing our capabilities and redefining ‘impossible’. There are so many reasons to join us. If you’re hungry to build a varied and meaningful career in a community of brilliant and diverse minds to make a real difference, there’s only one choice.
Technical Research Associate in SPR (all genders)
As a Technical Research Associate in SPR, you will drive high-quality biophysical interaction analysis using state-of-the-art SPR technologies, supporting drug discovery projects with robust data, clear interpretations, and actionable recommendations. You will expand and optimize advanced SPR platforms, work on challenging molecular interaction systems, and collaborate closely with scientists and external partners in a highly innovative research environment. This role is ideal for an SPR expert who combines hands‑on excellence with scientific curiosity and a passion for continuous improvement.
You will independently perform, evaluate, and document complex biophysical analyses with a focus on Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), preparing concise result reports and decision packages for project teams including visualizations, fit model justification and uncertainty assessment.
Based on data-driven hypotheses, you will propose follow-up experiments such as assay optimisation, concentration ranges, immobilisation strategies and regeneration conditions.
You will systematically monitor the state of the art (literature, patents, conferences, vendor roadmaps, start‑ups) to assess new instruments, sensors and analysis algorithms with a focus on SPR.
You will expand the SPR platform to analyse challenging molecular interactions, including large complexes, membrane-bound targets, antibody conjugates, oligonucleotides and cell‑binding approaches.
Existing workflows in protein science and biophysics will be optimised, and new practical and digital workflows will be developed and implemented by you.
Working closely with highly qualified laboratory technicians, scientists and researchers, you will contribute your expertise in SPR‑driven projects.
You will coordinate externally commissioned work with global partners and service providers, ensuring smooth collaboration and delivery.
In addition, you will maintain and service SPR instruments, manage lab materials and inventory, and support the analytics team in bioanalytical procedures such as HPLC, LC‑MS and SPR-based assays.
You hold a scientific Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree is welcome) or completed vocational training as a biological laboratory technician with additional technical qualification or equivalent extensive professional experience.
You have very strong hands‑on experience with SPR methods to characterise small molecules, peptides, oligonucleotides, antibodies and complex protein‑protein interactions.
Several years of practical experience with state-of-the-art SPR instruments, method development and analysis software (Biacore Evaluation, Biacore Insight; Carterra HT‑SPR a plus) distinguish your profile.
You are experienced in complementary molecular interaction screening methods such as Microscale Thermophoresis (MST), Spectral Shift (SpS) and Temperature Relative Intensity Change (TRIC).
Proficiency in data analysis software, together with an interest in developing digital automation solutions for data handling, evaluation and storage, is part of your skill set.
You integrate SPR data effectively into screening workflows and align findings with orthogonal analytical methods.
You are curious, research-driven and motivated to continuously improve methods and workflows in a fast‑paced, technology‑driven environment.
You communicate clearly and professionally with team members and stakeholders and enjoy collaborative teamwork.
Our benefits package is flexible, appreciative and tailored to your lifestyle, because: What matters to you, matters to us!
Be You. Be Bayer.
