Director, Agency and Trustee Services

As Head of Risk Control you will lead KAS Europe’s second line of defense and act as a member of the management board to embed robust risk controls across the loan agency lifecycle. You will implement and oversee risk governance, ensure regulatory compliance, and partner with front office, operations, and tech to drive a strong control environment. The role supports the strategic expansion and scaling of KAS Europe as a BaFin-regulated payment institution. You will shape risk strategy, reporting, and remediation at a European scale.

• Establish and advance a risk indicators system and early detection for operational, legal, reputational, and conduct risks
• Define, implement and monitor key controls across agency activities (onboarding, notice processing, cash management, amendments, restructurings)
• Ensure adherence to risk appetite, internal standards, and global policies
• Support risk policy matters and design risk-limiting systems
• Identify risk drivers in agency processes and implement preventive/detective controls
• Oversee incident management, root cause analysis, remediation planning, and control enhancements
• Monitor ongoing risk position and mitigation efforts
• Ensure regulatory compliance with ZAG, MaRisk, EBA/ BaFin guidelines; liaise with audits and regulatory reviews
• Develop and deliver risk reporting for KAS Europe and the Kroll group; monitor indicators and trends; escalate material risks
• Partner with management, operations, legal, compliance, finance, and technology; represent risk control in governance forums
• Lead and mentor a local risk control team; foster risk culture; contribute to regional and global risk initiatives

• 8+ years in risk control, operational risk, or control functions within payment services, syndicated loans, or corporate banking
• Ideally 3+ years as a management board member at a regulated institution
• Strong understanding of syndicated loan agency products and processes
• Proven experience with regulators, auditors, and senior management; ideally known to BaFin
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, law, or related discipline; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., FRM) advantageous
• Deep knowledge of operational risk frameworks and internal control standards
• Familiarity with EU and German regulatory requirements (ZAG, MaRisk, EBA/BaFin guidelines)
• Strong understanding of loan documentation, agency roles, and lifecycle events
• Fluency in English; German skills highly desirable
