Environmental Compliance Technician / Engineer (m/f/d)

Location: Mannheim, Germany

Industry: Advanced Industrial Manufacturing

As Environmental Compliance Technician/Engineer (m/f/d), you will play a key role in ensuring that a specialist manufacturing site meets all legal and regulatory requirements across environmental protection, hazardous materials management, and fire safety. Working closely with site leadership, you will implement environmental and safety standards and actively contribute to the long-term sustainable development of the operation.

The Role

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, hazardous substance and fire protection regulations within a complex, process-driven manufacturing environment
  • Monitor adherence to internal standards and external norms including ISO 14001, ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and relevant industry-specific quality frameworks
  • Create and maintain regulatory documentation, risk assessments and technical records
  • Prepare for, execute and support internal and external audits and official regulatory inspections
  • Evaluate production and process procedures against environmental and fire protection requirements
  • Provide day-to-day support and guidance to production, quality and EHS colleagues
  • Track and implement evolving legal requirements and drive improvement initiatives to strengthen safety, compliance and process stability
  • Plan and deliver internal training on environmental and safety topics
  • Contribute actively to sustainability projects and the continuous improvement of EHS processes across the site

About You

  • Completed technical training, ideally with further qualification in environmental protection, environmental technology, chemical engineering, process engineering, safety engineering or a comparable discipline
  • Several years of hands‑on experience in a regulated industrial manufacturing environment
  • Prior experience in environmental compliance, safety management or regulatory permitting is advantageous
  • Solid knowledge of German environmental and occupational safety legislation and relevant normative frameworks
  • Experience engaging with regulatory authorities, auditors or external service providers is desirable
  • A fire safety officer qualification is a plus, or a willingness to undertake the relevant training
  • Fluent German and good English, both spoken and written
  • Structured, independent and pragmatic in your approach to problem‑solving
  • A strong communicator who enjoys working across departments and functions
