Expert Manager, Software Engineering

In this role you lead the development of production-scale software and guide cross-functional teams to translate business problems into scalable technical solutions. You shape product direction, establish best practices, and mentor engineers while partnering with Bain’s consulting teams to deliver data-driven, AI-enabled outcomes. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment focused on high impact, scalable software for global clients. This is an opportunity to influence technology strategy and build reusable assets across projects.

• Lead architecture, development and documentation of AI applications and integrations
• Shape client solutions by translating business problems into backlogs and technical roadmaps
• Oversee full delivery lifecycle: code reviews, testing, release planning and post-deployment monitoring
• Establish AI-native software engineering standards, including design systems, CI/CD, testing and performance
• Mentor engineers through coaching, pair programming and architecture sessions
• Upskill client engineering teams on modern tooling and DevOps/cloud-native practices
• Advance AI-native technology adoption with containerization, IaC and observability
• Contribute to communities of practice and support talent acquisition and onboarding
• Collaborate with UI/UX designers to deliver inclusive, responsive interfaces
• Support cross-functional squads with reusable libraries and accelerators
• Travel as required for project engagements

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (explicit degree level not specified)
• 6+ years end-to-end experience designing and maintaining production-grade full-stack apps
• 3+ years in microservices architecture with CI/CD, observability and modern deployment strategies
• Proficiency in Python, JavaScript or similar languages
• Cloud-native delivery experience on AWS, Azure or GCP; IaC knowledge (Terraform/CloudFormation/Bicep)
• Containerization and orchestration skills (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Argo CD)
• Relational and NoSQL database experience (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis)
• Strong CS fundamentals and automated testing, performance profiling
• Experience with security, OAuth/JWT/SSO and data protection awareness
• English and German fluent
• Hands-on AI/ML development experience and familiarity with LLMs/AI safety (desirable)
• Experience with modern web technologies (React/Angular/Vue.js, TypeScript)
• Leadership, mentorship and ability to drive cross-functional teams
