Fire Helicopter Crew Supervisor

Summary

This is a Direct‑Hire advertisement for supervisory Wildland Firefighter (Helicopter Crew Supervisor) positions with the US Wildland Fire Service, GW‑0456‑10. Positions are located in Salt Lake City or Tooele, UT; Moab, UT; and St. George, UT.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, assign, and evaluate all work accomplished by a helicopter crew through two subordinate supervisors.
  • Perform administrative duties such as planning, budget formulation, and stewardship of facilities, equipment, vehicles, property, crew, training programs, and any cooperative agreements.
  • Direct aviation mission planning, including briefings of pilots, contract personnel, and crews on mission requirements.
  • Direct assigned suppression operations and implement recommended tactical strategy on attacking, controlling, or mopping up fires, building or patrolling firelines, felling snags, and cutting brush.
  • Maintain working relationships and pre‑incident coordination with applicable cooperators and wildland fire responders.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Suitability for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
  • Direct deposit required.
  • Required to submit to a drug test and maintain a negative result; subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment medical examination and may be subject to post‑employment examinations to ensure fitness standards.
  • Must pass the work capacity test for arduous positions.
  • Position requires operating a government (or private) motor vehicle; a valid state driver’s license is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Must serve a one‑year probationary period during which fitness and continued employment will be evaluated.
  • Individuals assigned male at birth after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for the Selective Service.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to be assigned to a hazardous position.
  • Travel may be required in a small single‑engine aircraft; may be required to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, or shift work.
  • May be required to travel overnight away from home up to 14 days at a time during peak fire season.
  • May be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
