Job Overview
High School Social Studies Teacher – Texas Online Preparatory School (TOPS). This is a full‑time, virtual position (40+ hours/week) starting the 2026/27 school year. Salary: $49K plus eligibility for a performance bonus. Residency preferred: Texas; surrounding states (NM, OK, AR, LA) also considered. Travel up to 20% of the time for face‑to‑face professional development and testing.
Essential Functions
- Provides rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences.
- Commits to personalizing learning for all students.
- Believes in all students’ ability to succeed and meet high expectations.
- Differentiates instruction based on student level of mastery.
- Augments course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools under guidance from principal and coach.
- Maintains grade book and ensures student academic integrity, makes placement and promotion decisions, and alerts administrators to performance concerns.
- Prepares students for high‑stakes standardized tests.
- Establishes and maintains positive rapport with families; regularly communicates with students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner.
- Supports learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues, and basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom environment in line with academy policies and procedures.
- Travels as required (≈ once per month and/or ~20% of the time) for professional development, student testing, and school requirements.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Active state teaching license.
- Clear required background check.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with the proposed age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
- Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or in a brick‑and‑mortar environment.
- Experience with online learning platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data, and use it to drive instructional decisions.
- Receptive to receiving coaching regularly from administrators and teacher trainers.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.
- Rapid learning of new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs and curriculum.
