Background
The Infrastructure and Data Division (I2D), within EUMETSAT's Technical and Scientific Support Department (TSS) operates and evolves the Multi-Mission IT Computing (MIC) environment providing 24x7 Infrastructure-as-a-Service platforms, container management platforms, virtualised environments and software-defined storage for EUMETSAT’s operational ground‑segment infrastructure.
You will join a dynamic team responsible for operating, maintaining, securing and evolving the MIC infrastructure as it progresses towards hybrid, container-based, automation‑driven and AI‑assisted operations.
Responsibilities
- Apply AI and advanced analytics techniques to infrastructure operations (anomaly detection, log analysis, predictive monitoring, operational telemetry analysis)
- Leverage AI‑assisted and agentic tooling to enhance operational efficiency, scripting, documentation and knowledge stabilisation, with full human validation
- Deploy and operate AI workloads on Kubernetes and cloud platforms, including containerised AI services and model‑inference services
- Enable and evolve the AI/ML infrastructure (GPU/vGPU acceleration, AI frameworks, data pipelines)
- Integrate AI‑assisted capabilities with CI/CD platforms to support infrastructure-as-code development
- Conduct proof‑of‑concepts, benchmarking and architecture assessments for emerging AI technologies
Skills and experiences
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants and agentic development tools (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex or equivalent)
- Experience applying AI or advanced analytics techniques to infrastructure operations
- Experience deploying and operating AI workloads on Kubernetes or cloud platforms (containerised AI services, model inference, scalable workloads)
- Experience leveraging AI‑assisted tools integrated with CI/CD platforms (e.g. GitLab AI capabilities)
- Experience with machine‑learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or Scikit‑learn (training, evaluation, deployment) is an advantage
- Experience with AI/ML infrastructure platforms, including GPU‑based environments and distributed training, is an advantage
- Advanced Linux administration and automation scripting (Bash, Python)
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline from an accredited university, with at least 5 years of relevant experience
- Effective written and verbal communication in English
- Ability to document and maintain technical baselines, operational procedures and architecture diagrams
- Knowledge of ITIL service management processes (incident, change, problem management)
- Willingness to participate in the standby / on‑call rotation and, occasionally, in weekend, public‑holiday or late‑night interventions as agreed in advance
General Work Skills
- Problem solving
- Good analytical skills
- High degree of interpersonal awareness
- Experience in working as part of a multicultural team
