Research Associate (Postdoc) in Artificial Membrane Systems (m/f/d)

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) for our biophysics research group to start as soon as possible for a research project on the function of viral ion channels in artificial membrane systems. The position is funded by the DFG-funded interdisciplinary Research Training Group 3014 “PhInt.” The research group is part of the Institute of Physiology II, where scientists from various disciplines and medical researchers use molecular biology techniques and electrophysiological, and microscopic methods to work on research projects involving ligand-gated and voltage-gated ion channels.

Your responsibilities include:

• Commissioning a newly acquired experimental setup for artificial membrane systems
• Active participation in the planning of a mutation study to elucidate structure-function relationships in a viral model potassium channel
• Conducting electrophysiological measurements, with a focus on artificial membrane systems
• Data analysis using various computer-aided methods
• Preparation of results for conference presentations and publications,
• Supporting the group leader in supervising doctoral students.

Your profile:

• A completed experimental Ph.D. in biophysics, physiology, biology, molecular biology, or a related field.
• Prior experience with electrophysiological methods or molecular biology techniques is advantageous
• Willingness to learn methods for computer-assisted data analysis. Prior experience in this area is also advantageous.
• Ability to work independently on research projects and actively participate in project planning.
• Excellent written and spoken English; good German skills are a plus
• Proficiency in using a computer
• Willingness to travel for project-related purposes, e.g., conferences or training
