Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years experience in Datacenter Operations and Hands & Feet support.
  • Strong experience with rack and stack, structured cabling, patch management, and hardware installations.
  • Working knowledge of either Server Administration or Network Administration.
  • Knowledge of datacenter power and cooling fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with ITIL-based Incident, Change, and Request processes.
  • Ability to work in mission-critical and highly available environments.

Preferred Technical Skills

  • Experience with Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco, Juniper, NetApp, EMC, or similar infrastructure platforms.
  • Knowledge of VMware, Windows Server, Linux, or enterprise networking concepts.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy, or equivalent ticketing tools.
  • Understanding of datacenter monitoring and DCIM tools.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • ITIL Foundation
  • CompTIA Server+
  • CCNA or equivalent networking certification
  • OEM certifications from Dell, HPE, Cisco, or Lenovo

Shift Requirements

  • Support rotational shifts and on-call requirements.
  • Availability for planned maintenance windows and emergency datacenter activities.
  • Ability to lift and install datacenter equipment when required.

Role Summary

The Datacenter Hands & Feet Engineer is responsible for providing onsite operational support for datacenter infrastructure, project execution activities, and day-to-day BAU support. The role requires strong hands-on experience in datacenter operations, physical infrastructure management, hardware installation, cabling, incident response, and vendor coordination. The candidate should also possess working knowledge in either Server Administration or Network Administration to support troubleshooting and infrastructure lifecycle activities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Datacenter Operations & Hands and Feet Support
    • Perform rack and stack activities for servers, storage arrays, network switches, firewalls, and appliances.
    • Execute structured copper and fiber cabling, patching, labeling, tracing, and cable management.
    • Provide remote hands support for infrastructure teams, OEM vendors, and service providers.
    • Conduct hardware installations, relocations, upgrades, and decommissioning.
    • Perform equipment inventory validation and asset tagging.
  2. BAU Operations Support
    • Execute daily operational health checks of datacenter infrastructure.
    • Support incident, service request, and change management activities.
    • Perform routine inspections of racks, power distribution units, environmental systems, and connectivity.
    • Assist in maintaining operational documentation and asset records.
  3. Infrastructure Project Implementation
    • Support datacenter expansion, migration, consolidation, and technology refresh projects.
    • Validate installation standards, rack elevations, power utilization, and cable layouts.
    • Assist project managers with implementation tracking and status reporting.
  4. Server Administration Support (Preferred Skill Area)
    • Assist with server hardware troubleshooting and replacement activities.
    • Support firmware upgrades, BIOS configuration, and hardware diagnostics.
    • Execute remote console activities using iLO, iDRAC, IMM, or equivalent management tools.
    • Perform power cycling, health verification, and guided troubleshooting.
  5. Network Administration Support (Preferred Skill Area)
    • Support basic switch and router troubleshooting.
    • Verify physical connectivity, port status, patch panel mappings, and fiber continuity.
    • Assist network teams with switch replacements, port activations, and hardware installations.
    • Support LAN/WAN troubleshooting under guidance from network SMEs.
  6. Power, Environmental & Facility Coordination
    • Monitor datacenter environmental conditions including temperature and humidity.
    • Support UPS, PDU, CRAC/CRAH, and generator maintenance activities.
    • Perform routine datacenter walk-through inspections.
    • Report facility risks, alarms, and service-impacting conditions.
  7. Vendor & Third-Party Coordination
    • Escort and coordinate OEM and third-party vendors within datacenter facilities.
    • Validate maintenance activities and obtain service reports.
    • Coordinate RMA processing and parts replacement activities.
    • Track vendor action items and maintenance schedules.
  8. Security & Compliance
    • Enforce physical access control and visitor management procedures.
    • Maintain audit trails and datacenter access logs.
    • Support compliance activities aligned to security and operational standards.
    • Adhere to EHS and datacenter safety requirements.
    • Perform first-level hardware and infrastructure troubleshooting.
    • Support root cause analysis activities by collecting logs, diagnostics, and evidence.
    • Coordinate with server, storage, network, and facilities teams for incident resolution.
    • Participate in major incident and recovery activities.
  9. Lifecycle Administration & Decommissioning
    • Support installation, relocation, upgrade, and retirement of datacenter equipment.
    • Follow approved procedures for data sanitization and disposal.
    • Update CMDB, inventory records, rack layouts, and asset databases.
