Design Engineer (d/f/m)

Job Overview

As an employee of Aerostack, a joint venture between Airbus and an automotive company, you will be part of a collaborative team developing PEM fuel cell stack for aeronautic applications. This role focuses on bipolar plate CAD design for the fuel cell stack technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure timely and successful creation and release of CAD drawings adhering to all Aerostack standards and configuration management requirements.
• Deliver assigned sub‑work packages on time in full compliance with project and Aerostack standards.
• Drive technical development of fuel cell stack components, parts, jigs and tools.
• Define, cascade, and manage requirements for stack components and jigs and tools.
• Create advanced, parameterized CAD models with mass, volume calculations and assembly checks.
• Perform mechanical, thermal, fluid, electrical analyses and detailed tolerance calculations.
• Apply Aerostack and aeronautical standards, prepare manufacturing drawings and BOMs.
• Support configuration management and maintain best practices within SAP.
• Participate in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (D‑FMEAs) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (P‑FMEAs).
• Coordinate procurement, manufacturing and assembly of components, parts, jigs and tools.
• Support validation and verification activities to achieve TRL5 and beyond.
• Collaborate with Component Responsible Engineer, project leads and cross‑functional partners.
• Continuously improve engineering procedures, design guides and methods.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Expertise in CAD‑based design of bipolar plates and substantial background in fuel cell stack development.
• Expert in 3D‑CAD tools (e.g., Catia, 3DX) and interpretation of FEM and CFD results.
• Competence in programming (e.g., Python).
• Fluent in English and German (written and spoken).
• Pragmatic mindset, strong drive for execution, and ability to thrive in multidisciplinary and multicultural environment.
• Experience in large‑scale engineering projects and configuration management preferred.
