Join Sun Life’s U.S. Controller’s team as Director of Product Accounting, where you’ll lead critical financial reporting operations that drive business decisions across our Insurance and Financial Management division. This is a high‑impact leadership role for a strategic thinker who thrives in a complex, regulated environment and is passionate about building high‑performing teams.

What You’ll Do

Lead with Purpose

  • Direct a talented team of 3 professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional growth
  • Shape the strategic direction of product accounting operations, influencing how Sun Life measures and reports financial performance

Drive Financial Excellence

  • Own the end‑to‑end monthly close process and quarterly/annual financial reporting cycles, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across IFRS, NAIC and U.S. GAAP accounting frameworks
  • Lead implementation of complex accounting guidance, translating regulatory requirements into actionable processes
  • Partner with business units to deliver insightful financial analysis that informs strategic decision‑making
  • Oversee audited financial statements for separate accounts and manage relationships with internal and external audit teams

Innovate & Optimize

  • Champion new product accounting frameworks and system implementations
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, enhance controls, and leverage technology
  • Collaborate across finance, business, and support functions to deliver integrated solutions

What you will bring with you

  • Accounting Leader: 8+ years of progressive experience in large financial institutions with demonstrated expertise in quarterly/annual reporting, audit coordination, regulatory compliance, and internal controls
  • Technical Expert:
    • Fluent in SAP, Hyperion, and Tableau with advanced Microsoft Office proficiency; strong foundation in life insurance accounting and separate accounts
    • Experience with IFRS, NAIC and U.S. GAAP accounting preferred
  • Strategic Partner: Exceptional communicator who builds trust, develops talent, and translates complex financial concepts for diverse stakeholders
  • Problem Solver: Driven by continuous improvement with a track record of implementing complex solutions in regulated environments
  • Cultural Fit: High integrity, strong work ethic, collaborative approach, and commitment to excellence
  • Education: BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Salary: National average range $139,000 - $208,500. Your actual base salary will be determined based on your unique skills, qualifications, experience, education, and geographic location. In addition, this position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive award based on individual and business performance.
