Senior Design Engineer, Design System

As a senior member of Celonis's design system team, you design and build production-friendly front-end components and architecture for a complex process intelligence platform. You own interaction decisions, translate AI-driven behaviors into usable experiences, and set high standards for front-end craft, accessibility, and performance. You mentor others, drive initiatives, and stay hands-on with design and code in a fast-paced, AI-enabled environment. This role bridges design, engineering, and product to scale interfaces for people and machines.

• Design and build production components in Angular and TypeScript as part of the design system
• Own interaction decisions, component design, and front-end architecture end-to-end
• Translate complex process data and AI-driven behaviors into intuitive UX
• Set standards for front-end quality, polish, motion, performance, and accessibility
• Prototype rapidly to explore new interactions and turn vision into testable experiences
• Collaborate with designers, PMs, and engineers to evolve the design system
• Maintain tokens-as-code and component metadata for AI agents to consume
• Document Figma Code Connect mappings and ensure clean linkage to coded components
• Build evals and guardrails for UI quality (visual regression, accessibility, token compliance) in CI
• Apply AI tooling daily and provide senior design and engineering judgment
• Lead system initiatives and mentor contributing designers and engineers

• 5–8 years in design engineering / UX engineering / front-end, with hands-on design system experience
• Strong UX sense with independent design decision-making
• Proficient in Angular and TypeScript; HTML/CSS fundamentals; openness to React
• Deep understanding of design token architectures and modern token pipelines
• Strong Figma fluency and code-design fluency
• Accessibility expertise (WCAG 2.2) implemented in code
• Hands-on with AI design/coding tools and prudent judgment on their use
• Product mindset with ownership, and leadership of a senior IC
