Special Chemistry & Toxicology Lab Footprint and Lab Engineering Lead (m/f/d)

In this role you shape global lab footprint strategy, optimizing distribution of special chemistry, toxicology and related laboratories. You will drive consolidation, expansion and relocation efforts to boost efficiency and service delivery while aligning CAPEX and regulatory needs. You’ll lead lab engineering projects, standardize processes across regions, and implement automation and LIMS integration in collaboration with IT and cross-functional teams. This is a high-impact, global role that combines engineering, compliance and continuous improvement to enable scalable diagnostic capabilities.

• Support global lab footprint strategy to optimize distribution of labs and testing sites across regions
• Identify consolidation, expansion, and relocation opportunities to improve efficiency and service delivery
• Support CAPEX planning for laboratory projects aligned with growth and regulatory requirements
• Standardize lab processes across regions to enhance performance and cost efficiency
• Design, construct, and maintain state-of-the-art laboratories supporting evolving diagnostics
• Ensure compliance with ISO 15189, ISO 17025, GMP, and CE-IVDR in lab design and operations
• Implement automation and digitalization in lab processes; collaborate with IT & Digital teams to integrate LIMS and smart lab technologies
• Apply Lean Six Sigma to improve productivity, reduce waste, and shorten turnaround times
• Benchmark and develop operational KPIs across labs for continuous improvement and standardization
• Advise on optimizing resource utilization to reduce costs while maintaining quality and compliance
• Act as liaison between 3L team and medical, Group, and country communities

• 10+ years of experience in special chemistry lab operations, engineering in diagnostics/healthcare/life sciences
• Deep knowledge of lab workflows, regulatory requirements, and automation technologies
• Experience in facility planning, CAPEX investments, and lab engineering projects
• Proven ability to work in cross-functional and international teams
• Strong project management skills
• Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and process improvement methodologies
• Familiarity with LIMS and automation trends in lab operations
• Excellent communication skills
• Location: Germany or Italy; Fluent in English; German or Italian desirable
• Bachelor in related field; Master in clinical chemistry desirable
