Special Education Teacher - Joliet, Illinois

Make a meaningful impact during the 26/27 school year as a Special Education Teacher supporting students in grades 38 with significant behavioral needs. In this contract position conveniently located near Joliet, IL, youll join an experienced team with manageable class sizesno more than 13 students per classand the daily collaboration of two dedicated paraprofessionals. Youll be instrumental in working with students who display behaviors such as eloping, defiance, physical aggression, and refusal, focusing on teaching and reinforcing positive replacement behaviors.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Valid Illinois Special Education Teaching certification
• Professional Educator License (PEL)
• Previous experience working with students exhibiting significant behavioral challenges preferred
• Commitment to proactive, skill-building support over restraint; CPI de-escalation training will be provided
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with paraprofessionals, colleagues, and families

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver instruction tailored to students with behavioral needs in grades 35 or 68
• Lead a structured, supportive classroom with up to 13 students and two paraprofessionals
• Implement behavior intervention strategies to replace disruptive behaviors with positive alternatives
• Collect and analyze data to guide instruction and behavioral supports
• Communicate regularly with families and team members to ensure continuity of care and support
