(Staff) Software Engineer – Rental Platform (m/f/d)

In this role you shape the software architecture for SIXT’s global branch network and lead the end-to-end integration of software with physical devices. You will set architectural direction across multiple branch domains, working hands-on to ensure scalable, real-time systems. You collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive durable patterns and improve the branch experience. • Set architectural direction for branch software running at 2,000+ locations
• Design software-hardware integration for devices such as POS terminals, tablets, scanners, keyboxes
• Drive system-design choices across branch domains including event-driven flows and API contracts
• Lead and mentor multiple teams (Checkout, Counter, Rental Platform, Turnaround, Keybox, Tablet/POS)
• Engage in hands-on problem solving at branches to shape architecture in production

• Several years of building production software at meaningful scale (multi-region, customer-facing)
• Strong system design depth with ability to defend architecture choices
• Experience shipping software that talks to physical devices and handles misbehaving hardware
• Backend proficiency in Go / Java / Python; experience with event streams (Kafka) and databases (Postgres / Redis); cloud exposure (AWS / Kubernetes)
• Proven track record leading architectural change across teams
• Excellent ability to communicate through design docs and reviews
