Director of Software Engineering (d/f/m)

As Director of Software Engineering for Germany, you will lead the Shipping engineering organization and shape the technical roadmap across multiple teams. You’ll couple engineering excellence with organizational leadership to deliver scalable shipping platforms used by millions of buyers and sellers worldwide. You’ll partner with Product, Architecture, and global Shipping leadership to translate business priorities into robust technology. • Lead and grow multiple engineering teams and their leaders within the Germany Shipping organization
• Define and drive engineering strategy and the technical roadmap in collaboration with Product, Architecture, and global leadership
• Oversee execution of critical Shipping initiatives with predictable delivery and operational excellence
• Provide technical and organizational leadership for large-scale distributed systems ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and observability
• Develop engineering leaders and talent pipelines, creating structure, succession plans, and career development
• Represent the Germany engineering organization within Global Shipping and EBAY, promoting modern engineering practices and cross-location collaboration

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; 12+ years of software engineering experience with large-scale systems
• 8+ years of engineering leadership experience across back-end, front-end, and native mobile teams in a global tech environment
• Strong depth and breadth in Java/Spring Boot, JavaScript/React, and native iOS/Android apps; expertise in microservices, REST, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native platforms
• Proven ability to define engineering strategy, evolve architectures, and lead cross-organizational initiatives balancing delivery, reliability, and long-term investments
• Track record of building high-performing engineering organizations, developing leaders, and fostering accountability and continuous improvement
• Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills with ability to partner with senior stakeholders across a global organization
