Director, Team Lead, Software Engineering for Computational Pathology (m/f/d)

You will lead the software engineering capability for AI-enabled computational pathology, delivering compliant, scalable pathology software solutions. You’ll build and scale high-performing teams, set robust software practices, and collaborate across Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical Affairs to meet SaMD and AI governance standards. You will shape data pipelines, model training/validation workflows, and MLOps for pathology algorithms, while driving reliability, performance, and cross-functional alignment. • Lead a core software engineering team in computational pathology aligned with business priorities
• Collaborate with Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical Affairs to meet SaMD, AI/ML governance, and data privacy/security standards; ensure audit readiness and regulatory documentation
• Develop scalable, audit-ready architectures for AI-based image analysis, data pipelines, model serving, and workflow orchestration
• Establish and promote SDLC best practices (CI/CD, testing, observability, incident response, change management) and optimize costs across cloud environments
• Drive reliability, maintainability, and performance at scale
• Contribute to scientific strategy for data pipelines, model training/validation, and reproducible MLOps; ensure fairness and generalizability of AI in clinical contexts
• Serve as technical interface with external partners for validation and deployment; foster cross-functional collaboration and clear technical communication
• Identify and mitigate technical, operational, and security risks; ensure cybersecurity and data governance
• Lead adoption of modern engineering practices and organizational change; mentor teams
• Lead publications and technical presentations to build recognition in AI-enabled medical software

• Regulated software development experience for medical applications with emphasis on data workflows, deep learning for medical data
• 7+ years in software development with at least 2 years in people leadership
• Domain knowledge in SaMD, AI systems validation, or medical device development is required
• Experience with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971 is a must
• Strong programming skills (Python, R, Rust) and experience with DL frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) and data libraries (Pandas, R)
• Experience in experimental design and reproducible studies; data analysis for medical applications
• Ability to work with multidisciplinary scientists and communicate to diverse audiences
