R&D Engineer (m/f/d) Ion Beam Sputtering

As an R&D Engineer in Ion Beam Sputtering, you contribute to advancing IBS coating platforms and process development for high-precision optics. You work closely with internal teams and external partners to push innovative vacuum coating solutions. You’ll present findings at conferences, publish results, and support customers with technical expertise. The role blends scientific insight with hands-on engineering in a growth-focused, international environment.

• Develop and optimize ion beam sputtering processes for optical thin-film deposition
• Involved in development, testing, and qualification of new components, process solutions, and system features
• Coordinate and execute R&D projects with internal and external stakeholders
• Write development and application reports and scientific publications
• Attend international conferences to present results and build networks
• Commission novel vacuum coating systems
• Support sales team and customers with technical expertise

• University degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Material Science, Physical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or comparable field (as stated)
• Experience in process development, experimental work, data evaluation, or system commissioning
• Ideally experience with ion beam sputtering systems, vacuum coating technology, optical thin films, or optical interference filters
• Good command of English; German advantageous

• Willingness to travel internationally for customer visits, commissioning, and conferences
