Senior Cybersecurity Engineer (m/f/d)

In this role, you protect utility-scale energy storage and OT environments by enforcing cybersecurity regulations and standards. You’ll work across the project lifecycle to design, deploy, and operate robust security controls and monitor risk. You’ll collaborate with customers, suppliers, and engineering teams to strengthen the security posture of Fluence’s energy storage solutions. The role combines regulatory compliance, IAM, network security, and incident response to enable secure, reliable operations.

• Perform cybersecurity assessments against IEC 62443, NIS2, EU CRA, and ISO 27001
• Support cybersecurity requirements throughout project lifecycle for utility-scale BESS and OT
• Review customer cybersecurity requirements during contracting and responses to RFIs/RFQs/security questionnaires
• Coordinate vulnerability assessments, remediation, patch management, hardening, and baseline validation for OT and Linux-based systems
• Support development of cybersecurity monitoring capabilities (SIEM, endpoint monitoring, vulnerability scanning, logging, dashboards)
• Conduct threat modeling, risk assessments, penetration testing, and architecture reviews
• Support incident response activities including tabletop exercises and remediation plans
• Review and improve OT network security architecture (segmentation, firewalls, VPNs, secure remote access, IAM, Zero Trust)
• Integrate cybersecurity controls into products, infrastructure, deployment automation, and operational processes
• Secure configuration and hardening of Linux systems, network devices, virtualization, and industrial control systems
• Coordinate cybersecurity activities with customers, suppliers, labs, and internal teams across Europe
• Develop technical documentation, procedures, guidelines, baselines, and customer-facing cybersecurity docs

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of cybersecurity experience in ICS/OT/energy/critical infrastructure environments
• Strong knowledge of IEC 62443 (2-1, 3-2, 3-3, 4-2)
• Familiarity with NIS2 and EU CRA
• Hands-on experience with vulnerability management, patch management, hardening, risk assessments, threat modeling, and security monitoring
• Strong Linux administration and security knowledge (Ubuntu or similar)
• Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, DNS, NTP, segmentation, secure remote access)
• Understanding of OT/ICS architectures and protocols (Modbus TCP, DNP3, IEC 61850, MQTT, OPC UA)
• Experience with cybersecurity tools (SIEM, vulnerability scanners, EDR, network monitoring, pentesting)
• Scripting/automation experience (Python, Bash, Ansible)
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work with engineering teams and customers
