Associate Legal Counsel

In this role you will own Staffbase’s regulatory compliance program, guiding adherence to EU and global rules while modernizing processes with AI. You’ll collaborate across Security, Product, and Legal to implement certifications and maintain policies, training, and risk assessments. You’ll translate complex regulations into practical guidance for the business and help drive scalable, future‑proof compliance. • Lead and implement Staffbase's regulatory compliance program across regulations (NIS2, Cyber Resilience Act, EU AI Act, global data protection laws)
• Own roadmap for certifications (e.g., ISO 27001), coordinating with Security, Product, and other teams for audits
• Draft and maintain internal policies on a defined review cycle to reflect evolving regulations
• Design and run compliance risk assessments and track remediation to closure
• Develop and deliver company-wide compliance training programs
• Champion AI to streamline compliance work (monitoring, policy drafting, risk tracking, reporting)
• Support commercial and corporate legal work (customer contract review, procurement, governance)
• Monitor regulatory developments independently and translate into practical business guidance
• Partner with Security, IT, People, and Product to embed compliance in day-to-day operations

• Fully qualified lawyer – 2nd State Exam in Germany, or equivalent EU qualification
• Based in Germany with fluency in German and English (C1 minimum)
• Clear, confident communicator who can translate regulatory requirements for non‑lawyers
• Tech‑savvy and proactive about legal automation and AI in compliance
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to run a program independently with support from Head of Legal
• Excellent attention to detail and process-driven approach to recurring compliance work
• Genuine interest in commercial or corporate legal work and willingness to support deals and procurement as capacity allows
