Automotive Staff Field Applications Engineer (m/f/d)

Overview

As an Automotive Staff Field Applications Engineer at Wolfspeed, you will be the technical bridge to automotive customers, driving design-wins and supporting EV system development. You work closely with the EMEA Automotive Sales team and internal engineers to define applications, optimize systems, and resolve field issues. You will guide customers through the full design lifecycle—from samples to volume production—ensuring safe, reliable SiC solutions. This role offers impact on scalable, sustainable electrified architectures and a chance to shape Wolfspeed's automotive foray.

Verantwortungsbereiche
  • Partner with Automotive Sales Account Managers to secure design wins and drive EMEA revenue growth
  • Qualify new customer opportunities and assess suitability of silicon carbide power devices for automotive applications
  • Provide pre-sales technical support, articulating system-level benefits of Wolfspeed SiC solutions
  • Support customers through full design cycle—from samples to production—including hardware debug and system-level guidance
  • Investigate customer claims and field issues with Quality teams to determine root cause and corrective actions
  • This role may require additional duties and/or assignments as designated by management
Zentrale Anforderungen
  • MSc in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent) with 3–5 years’ experience as FAE/Applications Engineer/R&D Engineer in high-power electronics (>1 kW)
  • Strong understanding of power electronics topologies (hard- and soft-switching) and high-voltage semiconductor devices
  • Solid foundation in semiconductor devices (diodes, BJTs, JFETs, MOSFETs, IGBTs)
  • Experience in circuit design, component selection, loss calculations, PCB layout considerations, and magnetic design in automotive environments
  • Strong technical communication skills for engaging customer engineering teams
  • Willingness to travel frequently across the EMEA region
  • Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of LTspice and/or PLECS
  • Fluency in German and English (other European languages desirable)
