Forward Deployed Engineering Senior Manager (f/m/d)

As Director, you lead a senior team of engineers, data scientists, and AI practitioners embedded in SAP’s strategic customer environments. You own team performance, delivery outcomes, and technical quality while shaping strategic direction and customer impact. • Lead and grow a team of senior engineers and AI practitioners, fostering accountability and continuous growth
• Own team performance: goal setting, feedback, career development, talent planning
• Drive delivery excellence across forward-deployed customer engagements, ensuring alignment with success criteria and SAP standards
• Set technical direction and architectural guardrails in collaboration with Chief Experts and technical leads
• Act as senior escalation point for delivery risks and customer concerns, resolving issues decisively
• Build relationships with senior customer stakeholders and SAP leadership to advocate resources
• Attract, hire, and onboard top engineering talent across AI, data, and software
• Partner with product, go-to-market, and regional leadership to align capabilities with priorities
• Champion engineering best practices and responsible AI culture within the team

• Proven experience leading senior engineering teams with a track record of building high-performing organizations
• Strong technical background in AI, machine learning, data engineering, or software engineering
• Deep understanding of forward-deployed or customer-embedded delivery models and complex engagements
• Strong problem-solving and design thinking; balance strategic and hands-on delivery
• Ability to develop talent and drive alignment across cross-functional stakeholders
• Experience with Agentic AI contexts and shaping AI applications in teams
• Experience hiring and scaling engineering teams across regions with a diversity focus
• Excellent communication and influencing skills with engineers, executives, and customers
• Familiarity with SAP AI technologies and enterprise AI deployment is a plus
