Overview

As Principal Engineer, you will lead the development of MVDC protection technologies for next-generation power systems. You will shape high‑voltage circuit breaker design and testing within a highly technical, research‑focused environment. You’ll collaborate with universities and contribute to patents and publications, driving innovative protection solutions. This role combines hands‑on design, simulation, and leadership to advance cutting‑edge MV/HVDC protection.

Verantwortungsbereiche

Design, simulate and test MV circuit breakers (vacuum, solid-state, hybrid)
Develop ultra-fast MVDC protection solutions
Design and optimise Thomson coil actuators for performance and reliability
Establish MV/MVDC test circuits, prototypes and HV laboratory testing
Lead research collaborations with European universities and research institutions
Contribute to patents, publications and development of new protection technologies
Ensure compliance with IEC and IEEE standards

Zentrale Anforderungen

5+ years’ hands-on experience in MV/HVDC protection, circuit breaker design, fault analysis and interruption technologies
Strong knowledge of hybrid circuit breakers, ultra-fast protection, MVDC breakers and innovative interrupter technologies
Experience with DER integration (PV and BESS) and advanced fault detection desirable
Strong electromagnetic and thermal modelling for high-power applications
Proven MV breaker development, technical innovation and leadership
Experience with real-time simulation or FPGA-based control systems
Experience with vacuum or gaseous circuit breakers advantageous
Strong research background with publications or collaboration in MV protection technologies
