Overview

As Principal Engineer, you will lead the development of MVDC protection technologies for next-generation power systems. You will shape high‑voltage circuit breaker design and testing within a highly technical, research‑focused environment. You’ll collaborate with universities and contribute to patents and publications, driving innovative protection solutions. This role combines hands‑on design, simulation, and leadership to advance cutting‑edge MV/HVDC protection.

Verantwortungsbereiche
  • Design, simulate and test MV circuit breakers (vacuum, solid-state, hybrid)
  • Develop ultra-fast MVDC protection solutions
  • Design and optimise Thomson coil actuators for performance and reliability
  • Establish MV/MVDC test circuits, prototypes and HV laboratory testing
  • Lead research collaborations with European universities and research institutions
  • Contribute to patents, publications and development of new protection technologies
  • Ensure compliance with IEC and IEEE standards
Zentrale Anforderungen
  • 5+ years’ hands-on experience in MV/HVDC protection, circuit breaker design, fault analysis and interruption technologies
  • Strong knowledge of hybrid circuit breakers, ultra-fast protection, MVDC breakers and innovative interrupter technologies
  • Experience with DER integration (PV and BESS) and advanced fault detection desirable
  • Strong electromagnetic and thermal modelling for high-power applications
  • Proven MV breaker development, technical innovation and leadership
  • Experience with real-time simulation or FPGA-based control systems
  • Experience with vacuum or gaseous circuit breakers advantageous
  • Strong research background with publications or collaboration in MV protection technologies
